The California State Poetry Society has continually published the California Quarterly since the fall of 1972. The Quarterly features poems from California and from around the world, including foreign-language poems with English translations.
The journal is edited by a team of four Editors, with each Editor being responsible for selecting and organizing poems in one issue per year. The Editors nominate six poems to the Pushcart Prize every year. Managing Editor Maja Trochimczyk, Ph.D. oversees the work of three Editors - Nicholas Skaldetvind, Bory Thach and Konrad Tademar Wilk. Occasionally, guest editors are invited to present their favorite poems.
As of 2023, the CQ does not accept simultaneous submissions; only unpublished poems and translations are considered (up to six poems per submission). Please include your address and email in the submission file, featuring your first and last name in the file's title - imagine having to look for your poem in 100 files entitled California Quarterly Submission!
If you like this journal, please join the CSPS to help support its printing and mailing costs. Membership benefits include four CQ issues per year, lower fees in Monthly and Annual Poetry Contests, and more. Established in 1971, the CSPS is the official state organization representing California to the National Federation of State Poetry Societies (NFSPS). The organization has been incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1985.
The California Quarterly, published four times a year, only accepts unpublished poetry. Foreign language poems need an English translation.
